The Disappeared Facebook post

I saw a Facebook post today that left me stunned (link above). I dug deeper. What I found was worse. Read it. Then act. Silence helps no one.
What I found
There is credible reporting that the U.S. government under the Trump administration has transferred over 280 young men to CECOT, a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, and paid $6 million to the Salvadoran government in the process.
What Happened

Over 280 men, mostly Venezuelan and Salvadoran nationals, were deported to CECOT between March and April 2025.
The U.S. government invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to justify these deportations, alleging gang affiliations — often without due process.
CECOT (Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo) is notorious for its extreme conditions: no family visits, no legal access, and credible reports of torture, beatings, and psychological abuse.
The $6 Million Deal

The U.S. State Department reportedly paid $6 million to El Salvador to detain these individuals for up to a year.
Legal experts argue this likely violates the Leahy Law, which prohibits U.S. funding to foreign security forces credibly accused of human rights abuses.
Human Rights Concerns

No independent human rights groups have been allowed to inspect CECOT.
Former detainees and legal filings describe severe beatings, sleep deprivation, and denial of food and bathroom access.
One man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was mistakenly deported and later returned to the U.S. after a court battle — his case has become a flashpoint in the legal and moral debate.

This isn’t history—it’s right now.
Their future, our future, depends on what we do next.
